Why go
Jabalpur sits on the Narmada, and the river is easiest to understand from its ghats. Wikipedia’s list of the city’s attractions says Jabalpur “is known for its ghats along the Narmada”, and names Bhedaghat, Gwarighat, Tilwara, Lamheta and Jamtara [1]. They are not interchangeable. One is built around an evening ceremony, one around a memory of Mahatma Gandhi, one around a stone gorge, and one around very old rocks.
The ghats, one by one
Gwarighat. The busiest and best known. The Maa Narmada temple holds an evening aarti, and the bank also has a gurdwara, a Jain temple and a Sai Baba temple and ashram [2]. MP Tourism lists it as the place to attend the evening Narmada aarti [3]. Our separate guide covers it in detail: Gwarighat and the evening aarti.
Uma Ghat. Wikipedia places the Narmada Sidh Kund near Uma Ghat and records the belief that sages did tapas there and that the water cures ailments [2]. That is tradition. We found no visitor details beyond this line.
Tilwara. MP Tourism names it as the riverside spot where Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed [3]. One travel site describes temples on the bank and a Gandhi memorial [9]. See Tilwara Ghat and the history page Tilwara Ghat.
Jamtara. Wikipedia describes it as lying at the confluence of the Narmada and the Pariyat, with the Bhadbhada waterfall nearby [1]. That is all we could source.
Lamheta. Known to geologists for its rock formation, named after the ghat. It is a place for the curious rather than a developed riverfront. See Lamheta Ghat.
Bhedaghat. The marble gorge and Dhuandhar Falls. The distance from Jabalpur is given as about 22 or 27 km on one MP Tourism page and 30 km on another, and as about 25 km in the UNESCO listing [3][4][5]. For this one, go to Bhedaghat day trip and Marble Rocks boat ride.
What to do at each
- Watch the aarti at Gwarighat from the cemented steps, and float a diya afterwards [4].
- Sit by the water at Tilwara and read about the 1948 immersion [3].
- Look at the rocks at Lamheta, ideally after reading about the formation first.
- Take a boat ride where boats are running. Gwarighat has decorated boats waiting at the bank, according to one travel article [6].
Plan your visit
A workable day: Tilwara in the morning while it is quiet, Bhedaghat through the middle of the day, and Gwarighat for the aarti at dusk. Allow travel time between them, because the ghats are spread along the river and the distances above are rough.
Etiquette
The ghats are living places of worship. Dress modestly near temples, cover your head in the gurdwara, and keep away from cremation areas, which Gwarighat also serves [2]. Keep soap, shampoo and polythene out of the water; at Narmada Jayanti 2025 devotees were asked to do exactly that [8]. Ask before photographing people at prayer.
Good to know
A visitor wrote in 2015 that the water at Gwarighat looks calm but the current is strong, and recommended avoiding boat rides after dark [7]. The same account mentions a high-water mark about 30 feet above the normal level, so expect the river to be much higher in the rains. Check conditions on the day. No official boat timetable, fare list or aarti schedule was found for any of these ghats.

उमा घाट। विकिपीडिया के अनुसार नर्मदा सिद्ध कुंड उमा घाट के पास है, और मान्यता है कि वहाँ ऋषियों ने तप किया और जल रोग दूर करता है [2]। यह परंपरा है। इस एक पंक्ति के अलावा हमें यात्रा संबंधी जानकारी नहीं मिली।

जमतरा। विकिपीडिया इसे नर्मदा और पारियत नदी के संगम पर बताता है, और पास में भदभदा जलप्रपात का उल्लेख करता है [1]। हमें बस इतना ही प्रमाणित मिला।

- तिलवारा में पानी के पास बैठें और 1948 के विसर्जन के बारे में पढ़ें [3]।

यात्रा की योजना
एक व्यावहारिक दिन: सुबह शांत तिलवारा, दिन के बीच भेड़ाघाट, और शाम ढलते ग्वारीघाट की आरती। घाटों के बीच आने-जाने का समय रखें, क्योंकि घाट नदी के किनारे दूर-दूर हैं और ऊपर दी गई दूरियाँ मोटा अनुमान हैं।
शिष्टाचार

जानने लायक बातें
2015 में एक यात्री ने लिखा कि ग्वारीघाट पर पानी शांत दिखता है पर बहाव तेज़ है, और रात में नौका-सवारी से बचने की सलाह दी [7]। उसी विवरण में सामान्य स्तर से लगभग 30 फ़ुट ऊपर जलस्तर का निशान बताया गया है, इसलिए बरसात में नदी बहुत ऊँची मिलेगी। उसी दिन हालात पूछ लें। इन घाटों के लिए नौका की समय-सारणी, किराया या आरती का कार्यक्रम किसी आधिकारिक स्रोत में नहीं मिला।

The ghats lie along the Narmada west and south-west of the city. Gwarighat is the most visited and has an evening aarti. Tilwara lies on the western side of the city, and Bhedaghat and Lamheta are further downstream.
